Sonoma and a 50th Anniversary

Today I was fortunate enough to spend the day with a good friend crafting.  I was helping her prepare for her in-law's surprise 50th Wedding Anniversary party next weekend.

She had found a centerpiece that she "kind of" liked online.  They were selling them for $10 a piece!  For a plastic picture holder - really?  We knew we could do better.

She picked our Sonoma paper that has some really rich looking colors:  Smokey Plum, Olive, and Cocoa.

Here's my first picture of the centerpiece:

Using the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, we decided to use the rectangle card (page 44) as our base for the centerpiece.  We cut it a large as we could from a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock. We ended up cutting it at 9.4".  We had to "trick" my Expressions machine into thinking the paper was bigger than it was.  So we placed the 12 x 12 cardstock on a 12 x 24 mat.  The key was not placing the cardstock exactly at the top of the mat.  We actually slid it down so the bottom was at the 29 1/2 line of the mat.  This way the machine would cut at 9.4".

Here's a picture of one of the 3 other sides:

We used the border strip (diamond) from the top of the papers and matted it with the Smokey Plum cardstock.

Here's a picture of the top of each centerpiece:

We took 2 of the rectangular cards we made and glued them together.

Here's a picture of all 10 of the centerpieces put together:

We also made a pennant banner using the My Creations Banner and cut the pennants using the Art Philosophy cartridge again at 6.9" each.

I made rosettes for the base of each letter in the banner.

The scalloped circles and the letters were also using the Art Philosophy cricut.

We were also going to make an 8 x 8 scrapbook album using the same paper but didn't finish it today.  Someone will take a picture of the guests as they first arrive and they will sign the album and leave a personal note.  Then the pictures will be printed out and added to the album.  It will be a great momento of their anniversary.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
