Independence Day

What ?!?!?  Hope you weren't expecting to see Will Smith fighting the aliens here!  We are actually featuring crafty creations showcasing "Independence Day" ... the holiday!

Not only are all of our creations going to be about Independence Day ... the holiday ... but they will also be using the Artiste and/or Art Philosophy Cricut cartridges available exclusively through a Close to My Heart consultant.  If you don't already have a Consultant that you are currently working with, please contact one of the Consultants in our hop with any questions you have!

In this hop, you will see projects featuring this versatile cartridges from many talented crafty ladies!  Enjoy our blog hop!

For my project, I decided to create a 12" x 12" layout.  I am SO far behind in my scrapbooking and with an upcoming trip to DisneyWorld for Convention, I thought I would get a headstart on some of it!

For the first page of what I hope to be many, many, many more layouts, I used the Tommy paper pack from, you guessed it, Close to My Heart!  I used Cranberry cardstock measuring 12" x 12" for the background.  I then took a piece of White Daisy cardstock and cut it at 11 3/4" x 11 3/4".  The third layer is Outdoor Denim cardstock cut using our Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.  I cut it at 11" using the "Fit to Page" key.  You can find this image on page 33, A3, < Square2 >.  The most top layer is designer paper from the Tommy paper pack which was cut at 9 1/2" x 9 1/2".

Here's tip to save paper that you may or may not know about.  I actually cut the middle out of the White Daisy cardstock that was the second layer of my layout.  Since I was placing the Outdoor Denim scalloped layer on top, I cut out the middle using my Fiskars paper trimmer.  Now I probably should have done the same with the Outdoor Denim piece of cardstock as well but I decided to add the designer paper on top of it at the last minute and had already adhered it before I remembered.

For the sentiment at the top of the layout "4th of July" I cut out the cloud shapes using our Artiste Cricut cartridge.  You can find this image on page 70, D10, Accent 2, < HppyBdy > cut at 1 1/4" and 1 1/2".   I then edged each cloud using sponge dauber and Cranberry and Outdoor Denim inks.  The sentiment was stamped using our Trinity Alphabet stamp set.  I just love this stamp set because it has 124 stamps and has letters in 3 different sizes ranging from 1/4" - 1" tall. Now this stamp set is retiring as of July 31, 2013 but is only available while supplies last.

The 3 photo mats were cut using the Art Philosophy cartridge.  It's the same image as referenced above but cut at 3 1/2" and 3 3/4".  I edged the White Daisy mats using our Cranberry ink.

The Statue of Liberty and sentiment "Land of the Free" come from our Home of the Brave - Military Support Campaign stamp set.  This stamp is one of three created for this campaign that is only available from June 1 - July 31, 2013.  There are 3 stamp sets being released for this campaign:  Home of the Brave, Courage, and Strong and Free.  Close to My Heart is donating a portion of each stamp set to either the USO or the Canadian Hero Fund so don't forget to orders yours before the end of the month by clicking on the links I have above.

I stamped the Statue of Liberty image using Desert Sand ink and the "Land of the Free" image with Outdoor Denim ink.
